Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Our SIGs are all student run and provide opportunities outside of curriculum to explore various areas of interest within veterinary medicine

Canine Interest Group (CIG)
CIG fosters enthusiasm for canine medicine and practice by providing opportunities for Vet and Animal Science students to improve their knowledge and skills to complement and extend curriculum. We aim to provide experiences that enhance student learning, moving a step beyond standard canine medicine curriculum at Murdoch University. Upon graduation, many CIG members work in small animal medicine as clinical veterinarians, specialists or animal health representatives in the public sector. CIG strives to provide these future representatives of the small animal industry with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the industry, effectively and informatively advocating for canine health and welfare.

Through interactive workshops, seminars from experienced veterinarians and nurses, hands-on learning sessions, and social events, we aim to build confidence and practical skills in feline handling and care. Murdoch Association of Companion Exotics (MACE)
MACE is dedicated to advancing knowledge, skills, and confidence in the care of companion exotic animals. Focused on supporting vet students with a passion for small mammals, avian, reptile, and other non-traditional pets, MACE bridges the gap between theory and practice through interactive workshops, hands-on clinical skills sessions, and case-based learning. Beyond practical sessions, MACE fosters strong connections with industry professionals, specialist veterinarians, and wildlife and exotic animal organisations, creating valuable networking and mentorship opportunities. Through collaborative events, guest lectures, and community engagement initiatives, MACE aims to inspire future veterinarians while promoting high standards of welfare and evidence-based care in exotic animal medicine.

Murdoch Association of Veterinary Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Emergency (MAVSIME)
MAVSIME is a student-led Special Interest Group focused on developing practical knowledge and confidence in veterinary surgery, internal medicine, and emergency/critical care. We aim to bridge the gap between pre-clinical learning and real-world clinical application through case-based discussions, skills workshops, revision sessions, and guest speakers from referral and specialty practice. Whether you’re interested in small animal surgery, ECC, complex internal medicine cases, or just want to build stronger clinical reasoning skills, MAVSIME provides a supportive environment to learn and connect with like-minded students. We also run collaborative events, sponsor-supported workshops, and practical learning opportunities to help students feel more prepared for rotations and life in practice.
